MAKARA MORRIS, Bridlington
BRIDLINGTONS BORDER MORRIS
COME AND HAVE AGO, NEW DANCERS AND MUSICIANS WELCOME
CONTACT DENISE WALKER, TELEPHONE 01262 672660
We meet at Wansford Village Hall 7.30pm-9 30pm most Mondays to practise. We aim to be able to dance out in the summer time, the dances we have learnt, to share the fun of Morris with others. We will be recognised by our green tatters, our kit being representative of the legend of the green man, our name makara being part of the far history of the exploration of the green man. With our sticks, hankies and bells we try to capture the spirit of the lord of the dance.
We Denise, Dave and Clive Walker formed the side in 2006, we as a family having been involved in Morris dancing of different styles for over 20 years. Makara is a Border side, and as well as having danced established dances, we now several years on enjoy doing all our own; written for and developed by the side together.
We now have a growing side of dancers and musicians and we enjoy both practices and dance outs which include, British Legion Hotel, care homes, sea fronts, riversides, weddings as well as the more traditional fairs/fetes, pubs and Folk Festivals.
